MARGARITA'S | REFRESH OF A DEMPSEY LEGEND
THE CHALLENGE
An established homegrown Singapore brand, Margarita’s wanted a fresh look for its Dempsey Hill restaurant while retaining the character its long time customers know and love.
The brief called for a selective renovation, keeping and refinishing parts of the existing architecture and furniture. The aim was a lighter, more contemporary environment: relaxed and friendly, with an elevated atmosphere that could accommodate both larger gatherings and quieter moments at the bar.
OUR APPROACH
We began by simplifying the space. Selected arches and latticework were removed to reveal the generous ceiling height, while the central arches remained as defining architectural features.
Dusty terracotta softened the previously dark tiled walls, complemented by cream-toned finishes and refinished furniture. A large new arch behind the central bar gave the room a clear visual anchor, while accent lighting introduced warmth around the bar and dining areas.
The f&b interior design approach combined these visible changes with practical improvements to circulation, storage and separation between the washrooms and dining space. Kitchen and bar equipment were also replaced as part of the renovation.

THE CONCEPT
The concept visual brings together terracotta, sandy tones and light timber finishes in a warm, Mexican-inspired palette. Existing chairs were specified for reupholstering and restaining, giving familiar furniture a refreshed role within the scheme.
Chevron tiles arranged in bold stripes introduce rhythm across the bar front and back bar. These interior design ideas connect colour, texture and retained elements into a coherent direction for the restaurant.

THE FLOORPLAN
The layout largely retains the existing arrangement, with targeted changes to improve circulation. Removing an internal low wall opened up the central dining area, while a new antechamber created separation between the washrooms and restaurant. Additional storage supported the practical needs of the space.

THE FEATURE AGAVE BAR
A large, hand-painted agave mural fills the arch behind the bar, creating a vivid green backdrop to the tequila collection. The arch frames the composition, giving the room the strong central feature it previously lacked.
Suspended circular lighting and illuminated shelves draw attention to the bar, while warm finishes and retained decorative details keep the atmosphere intimate and familiar.

THE DINING SPACE
Three-metre-tall portrait canvas prints bring bold colour and character to the main banquette wall. Their scale responds to the restaurant’s generous proportions, giving the dining area a distinct visual identity.Timber tables, refinished seating and warm lighting balance the expressive artwork, creating a setting for shared meals and conversation.
